How to point your domain to HostGator?

Let's learn how to point your HostGator subdomain to your blog or website on Stage:

1. Enter HostGator's CPANEL (dashboard), scroll down until you find “Advanced Zone Editor” in the submenu ‘Domain’:

2. In ‘Domain’, select the domain of the website you want to point to:

3. Now, we will need to access the Dashboard at Stage to get the information needed for pointing. Access Stage in a new tab and on the home page click on Dashboard:

4. With the Dashboard open, enter the submenu ‘Domain’:

5. Your Domain's pointing settings will be as follows:

Type: CNAME

Name field: displays the domain or subdomain you want to point to. Example: If you are pointing your domain, it will probably be something like mysitedomain.com. If you are pointing to a subdomain, it should probably look like: blog. mysitedomain.com or www. mysitedomain.com, etc.

Target Field: value generated by our service to which you will point your domain or subdomain.

Important note: there is a difference between pointing to the Domain and the Subdomain. The subdomain uses the main domain and is distinguished by adding another name in addition to the domain name. For example: blog. mysitedomain.com is a subdomain, whereas mysitedomain.com is the main domain that you acquired in HostGator.

Domain Pointing

HostGator does not allow you to use CNAME for pointing your main domain. In your case you want to point your Domain, you must do it as follows:

After having clicked on your Domain In “Type” select “A”. In “Name”, leave blank as the form itself will automatically place the domain. In “TTL” enter the TTL number found in the DOMAIN Dashboard of Stage, and in “Address”, type the IP address 151.139.128.10.

There you have it! Your domain is already pointed and the deadline is 48h for the url to be working properly.

Subdomain Pointing

After you have clicked on your Domain In ‘Type’, select ‘CNAME’. In ‘Name’, enter the additional value of your subdomain and the form itself will place the domain automatically. In ‘TTL’ insert the TTL number found in the DOMAIN dashboard in Stage and, in ‘Address’, type the Target described in the dashboard:

Note: In the Name field, you must fill in the additional value of your domain. In the example above, it was a blog to obtain the subdomain blog.mysitedomain.com as a result.

This field must be filled in according to the subdomain you want to point to.

There you have it! Your subdomain is already pointed and the deadline is 48h for the url to be working properly.
